Our Final Year

16/11/2014

2014 has been a significant year for Shine Choir.  Shine sang in Adelaide Fringe Festival which has been a dream for some time.

After this event, several of our members felt they needed to leave Shine due to other commitments or changes in life.  This also included our director whose last event was at Colonel Light Gardens.  With this decline in numbers and after a great deal of prayer, consideration and discussion, we have decided to make this Shine's last year.

We have had an incredibly enriching time sharing the Gospel of our Lord Jesus with others.  We have travelled throughout South Australia from as far west as Ceduna, down to Naracoorte and as far east as Waikerie and the Riverland.  We have even travelled to Horsham in Victoria and into New South Wales, sharing the Good News through song.

Many have said how wonderful it was to hear the choir and we have been blessed to hear this feedback as we know that It is only through the Lord Jesus that we can do anything or be a blessing to others.  We give all praise and glory to Him for all that He has done through Shine.

We want to say thank you to all who have supported us through these many years and we thank the Lord for leading us in all these things.

Unfortunately, an organisation such as Shine cant operate without financial support, but thankfully, we are able to hold fund-raising events that go along way toward keeping Shine going week to week, and month to month.

Earlier on in the year, we held a movie fundraiser at the Capri Theatre in Goodwood. We watched "Oz the great and Powerful with 65 supporters of the Shine Choir. Thanks to those of you that were able to support us in this way.

And just the other day, Shine was out in force at Officeworks Trinity Gardens, cooking sausages and selling soft drinks! It was a great time of getting to know each other and serving yummy snags to the community. Thanks Officeworks Trinity Gardens!

We've got a few more fundraisers planned, so stay tuned for more information.

Sunday the 7th of April saw the Shine Choir at New Life Christian Centre in Christies Beach. Shine Choir knew straight away it was going to be a special service with the congregation singing and clapping from the first song. There was a special sort of joy that could be felt through the entire service.

We thank New Life for the opportunity and look forward to visiting again soon.

In March the Shine Choir was privileged enough to be invited to sing in the Flinders
Ranges. All Shiners arrived on time at 3pm on Saturday the 16th of March at the Melrose
Institute in 36 degree heat. The members of the Shine choir were all hands on deck to set
up the sound equiptment. We became team Shine!!!

One of the key things that made this trip amazing was meeting the people. Shine choir
was met with good old fashioned country hospitality in every way. We were met with the
most amazing smiling faces who did more than any of us could have imagined. AND the
food, well I don’t know where to start, there was just so much of it. If any people who
contributed to this weekend read this let me say again THANK YOU!!!

Saturday night was the concert which saw around 90 people attend. Shine sung for
around 1 hour and a half and had a fantastic time bringing live music to the country and
sold our CD’s to the locals. After the concert we drove for about fifteen minutes and
we came to our accomodation. We were allowed to stay in the local church which was
fantastic. It was a special time of getting to know each other more. We were also blessed
to have air conditioning on an extreemly hot night.

Sunday morning we were all up bright and early, showered and ready to do it all again.
This time we lead the combined churches harvest service. Again we were blown away
with the hospitality at lunch time.

A very special person was Sheryl. She was our accompanist for this trip and was a
blessing in so many ways. Her life is a story of faith and she shared some amazing
stories. We only found her two rehearsals before the trip and she felt led to accompany us
and learn 27 songs for the two days in less than two weeks. She was a gift to us. We wish
her well and hope that we can play with her again.

Stu & Steve leading the caravan park sing-along.
Members of Shine Choir had a camp at Victor Harbour on the 19th and 20th of January. We began with a three-hour rehearsal learning new songs for future gigs and a quick practice of the old.  Dinner had to be fish and chips when visiting the coast. Next to the Victor Harbour fish and chip shop was Happy FM. We walked in and were able to sing  the songs of the African Medley LIVE and chat about our gig the next at Pt Elliot Uniting.

We arrived at 8:30AM for a sound check which was early for some of our members. We led the service in a couple of songs and mingled with coffee when the service finished. The concert began at three o’clock and went for an hour. The concert was met with a very enthusiastic audience who bought some CD’s. It was a great start to the year and we look forward to the further opportunities for this year. It is a BIG year for the SHINE CHOIR!
