About Shine
Shine Choir first came together in 1999 as a group of individuals brought together to sing at the Shine Urban Youth Festival, which was held as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Bible College of SA.
Since that time, Shine has seen many different seasons as people come and go, and one of the most exciting things about Shine is that we really are a big family. There are a number of people that have been with Shine for a season and then moved on, while others have taken a break for a year or two and then returned. There have been times where Shine was a small group of 4 or 5, and at other times, there have been 20 to 25. At its largest, Shine had 50 members. We are currently a group of 10 singers and 3 musicians.
This small, dynamic group is powerful in performance while allowing flexibility with the styles of music performed. The musical style is chosen largely by the Musical Director. Previously the Music Directors have directed in the choir in traditional hymns and contemporary worship songs from artists such as Kirk Franklin and Chris Tomlin. Currently the choir is moving in a gospel direction with a contemporary edge.
Shine Choir is about to celebrate its fifteenth birthday, so it will be a big year! There will be lots of travelling, bringing our unique style to many audiences, both near and far. We've got big plans, and we're looking forward to doing some things we've never done before.
We will never forget our history, or where we have come from, and we are confident that we will continue to grow as a choir. We looking forward to the future and are excited to see where God will take us.
